For stable and reliable storage‑retrieval operations of high‑bay warehouses, the racking structure alone is insufficient. A complete set of supporting hardware and software systems serves as the foundation for normal operation. The whole system consists of two major parts: hardware equipment and software management system. All modules work collaboratively to form an integrated warehousing system.
As the execution carrier of high‑bay warehouses, hardware facilities include multiple core units. As the main storage body, high‑bay racks store goods in multiple tiers and lay the foundation for high‑density storage. Stacker cranes are core handling equipment, performing outbound, inbound and relocation operations for palletized goods within aisles. Conveyor systems connect warehouse gates and aisle ports for goods transfer, with roller conveyors and chain conveyors as widely‑adopted types. Auxiliary hardware including pallets, location detection sensors, barcode scanners, safety fences, photoelectric anti‑collision devices and electrical control cabinets ensure stable and smooth workflows.

Software systems undertake scheduling, control and data‑recording functions. The WMS (Warehouse Management System) acts as the upper‑level management platform, handling inventory ledger management, order splitting, batch management and goods information logging. As the intermediate layer, the WCS (Warehouse Control System) receives tasks from WMS and uniformly dispatches automated equipment such as stacker cranes and conveyors by issuing storage‑retrieval commands. Meanwhile, the PLC control system directly governs the start‑stop and position movement of various mechanical devices. In some cases, connections are built with corporate ERP and MES systems to realize data interconnection among warehousing, production and sales.
Hardware and software cooperate closely: software issues task commands while hardware carries out physical material handling and feeds back real‑time operation status. Missing or incompatible modules will lead to system stagnation or operation interruption. When planning high‑bay warehouse construction, enterprises shall select matched hardware‑software configurations according to warehouse scale and operation rhythm to guarantee full‑system compatibility and stability, so as to give full play to the high‑density storage advantages of high‑bay warehouses.
